The Lanai
There is a large lanai on the ocean side of each floor of the palace. They were enlarged by King Kalakaua and are enjoyed by our visitors and staff.

From the second floor lanai, you have a fine view back to the Kailua Pier. This is the location of the capital of Hawai`i from 1812 to 1819. After uniting the Hawai`ian Island, King Kamehameha the Great moved the capital to Kailua-Kona. The site he chose is known as Kamakahonu - or "Eye of the Turtle" and his personal temple, Ahu`ena Heiau, has been reconstructed on the site.
